And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run with it. Habakkuk 2:2 KJV
Are there things in your life that you know would be good for you if you did them, but you just put them off because they aren’t critical? My hand is raised high! This post addresses an important habit that is hard for most of us to adopt. It really is the only way you can make and track real progress toward a millionaire status. If we could get over this block, we would see all kinds of success.
Ok. We want to be millionaires and most of us are far, far away from that reality…but we really want to get there. Right? Let’s define and remove that block.
“When there’s a gap between who you are and who you intend to be, you are incongruent and unhappy.”
Solidify Your “Future Self”
Completely eliminate how you see your past self. Most people continue to define themselves by what they have been in the past. We must forget it and move to a new definition of ourselves. Begin to see yourself from a broad perspective. Know that you can be more and have more than you have ever had. You can do this by seeking a “Peak Experiences”. Your “Peak Experience” can come from reading a book, studying famous people, or any new thing or event that takes you out of your old self. This experience will take the place of some of your old memories and begin to shape your “Future Self”. Consistently go after these “Peak Experiences” because..what you focus on will expand in your life.
“If you want a positive reaction (or “Peak Experience”), your best chance of obtaining it is by putting yourself into an active, purposive frame of mind. Depression is the natural outcome of negative passivity. The “Peak Experience” is the outcome of an intentional attitude.”
Colin Wilson
Take time to design your ”Future Self”. Spend quality time imagining what you will be in the future. We must not assume that who we are today is who we’ll always be. In psychology there is a term called “psychological flexibility” according to Benjamin Hardy. “It means you hold your current identity and current emotions “loosely” as you pursue meaningful goals. You’re flexible in challenging and new situations. You’re increasingly adaptive. You’re not rigid. You’re not stuck. You’re growing in confidence.” The key is to be intentional, seek “Peek Experiences”, know your Purpose then commit to the process. See, ”Find YourPurpose: Become a Millionaire”.
Acquire This “Keystone” Habit
Charles Duhigg defines “keystone” habits as “small changes or habits that people introduce into their routines that unintentionally carry over into other aspects of their lives.” An example would be your decision to exercise every morning. You’ll find that in time, other habits are affected. Your desk becomes more organized or you eat healthier. Your paradigm shifts. The important “keystone” habit of millionaires is journaling.
“Keeping a personal journal, a daily in-depth analysis and evaluation of your experiences is a high-leverage activity that increases self-awareness and enhances all the endowments and the synergy among them”
This powerful “keystone” habit will effect every area of your life! It will do several things for you. First, it helps you to be creative because you can see patterns and creative suggestions from your daily observations. It also increases and speeds up your ability to get to your goals. It keeps you focused on what’s important. It helps you clearly define and sharpen your “Future Self”. One of the best advantages of journaling is that it gives an opportunity to review and document your “Peak Experiences”.
This is the best way to enhance and sharpen your goals toward becoming a millionaire. It also helps you become clear about what you really want. The stubborn problem is, we have tried to journal many times. We know it’s something we should do but sticking to it is a definite challenge. We need help! Let’s pray for Holy Spirit to increase our desire to write our plans and make them plain everyday. He will remove this strong block to becoming a millionaire and help us build this powerful “keystone” habit of journaling.
“Always plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.”
